Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho feared Man City boss Pep Guardiola before taking job | Football | Sport
Mourinho and Guardiola both touched down in Manchester in the same summer with the two men both proving to be big hits at their respective clubs.
At Manchester United, Mourinho landed them the EFL Cup, Europa League and Community Shield during his maiden season at the helm.
And while Manchester City ended their first year under Guardiola without a trophy, they are set to win a EFL Cup and Premier League double at the least this season.
City have been tipped to also win the Champions League.
And the Manchester Evening News say Mourinho feared Guardiola thriving at the Etihad Stadium when he took the United job.
Mourinho, you could argue, has had it harder.
United were stuck in a rut when he took over after two disappointing seasons under the guidance of Louis van Gaal.
Before that, they had endured a nightmare campaign under David Moyes.
Mourinho, though, has steadied the ship at United – regardless of City’s achievements.
They currently have more wins and goals than any other season since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.
And the season could yet end with a final flourish should they win the FA Cup and Champions League titles.
The MEN also think Mourinho would relish the chance to stop City winning the title against his United side.
As it stands, Guardiola’s attacking arsenal can scoop the prize when the two teams meet on April 7.
